Take Five Minutes to Support Monterey County Moms

Bright BeginningsAdvocacy, Community

Two important bills, AB 3032 and AB 2193, are headed to the Senate Health Committee this week. California Senator Bill Monning sits on the committee and needs to hear from his constituents.

AB 3032, Hospital Quality, Programs for Maternal Mental Health

  • Requires hospitals to develop a program for addressing maternal mental health including clinician training and patient education.
  • The bill also requires that the effectiveness of the program(s) be monitored and improvements implemented when necessary.

AB 2193 Case Management and Ob/Gyn Screening for MMH disorders

  • Requires health providers to screen pregnant and new moms for maternal mental health disorders and requires insurance companies to ensure that moms get the help they need if they screen positive.
  • The bill also requires that the effectiveness of the program(s) be monitored and improvements implemented when necessary.

CALL SENATOR MONNING (916) 651-4017:
I’m a constituent and I calling to urge Senator Monning’s SUPPORT for AB 2193 and AB 3032 when it comes before the Senate Health Committee on June 27. This bill is rooted in the recommendations from the CA Task Force on Maternal Mental Health which was formed at the urging of the legislature through ACR 148. It will provide life-saving and family-stabilizing support to doctors and women and help reduce the $2.25-billion-dollar cost to California’s society of untreated maternal mental health disorders, like postpartum depression.

WRITE TO SENATOR MONNING:
Use the 2020Mom webpage to send a pre-drafted letter or write your own letter and send it via Senator Monning’s webpage.

These bills are especially relevant in Monterey County where our newly released Bright Beginnings Strategyincludes “Empowered and Resilient Parents: Improve screening, treatment, and support for parents’ mental health” as one of our top 10 strategies to prepare every child for life and school.

Thank you for being a champion for children and families!
