Seasons Change. Working Together Stays the Same.

Bright BeginningsAdvocacy, Community

After sweltering days, the fog rolling in from the coast is a reminder that things do change — the weather, COVID positivity rates are down, many fires are contained or out, and there are even several elementary schools that have waivers and reopened. Our new ways of going about life, school, and work are becoming more and more familiar.

It’s almost Halloween and Día de los Muertos, two favorite days of the year for many of our youngest and not-so-young. Here are tips to keep the fun and creativity in and the virus out of your Halloween festivities.

COVID positivity rates are down in great part because we are diligently wearing face coverings, washing hands, socially distancing, and following disinfection protocols. Let’s stay diligent as we gather with loved ones during the holidays. Read here how these kinds of measures continue to be successful at keeping infection rates down in child care and education settings.

More familiar does not mean easier. The change of seasons can be hard for many of us, with shorter days and cooler weather keeping us indoors, the stress of this year’s ongoing crises may rise in our hearts and minds, so please reach out for help or with extra kindness and support. If a child you are caring for needs more than you know how to give, the Kinship Center’s bilingual mobile mental health response team is ready to help with clinicians available to talk 24/7. Call 831-687-4379 for support. They can even come to you if needed.

We will get through this year by working together and ensuring all voices are heard and needs are met. Read more about the needs of families here in Spanish and English, as captured by the various community groups across the county advocating for the needs of our most vulnerable.
