Policy Advocacy Network Meeting Update

Bright BeginningsAdvocacy

The Bright Beginnings Policy Advocacy Network is up and running. The latest meeting was great jumping off point for discussions about advocacy at various levels: school districts, county including state and federal. Here are some highlights:

  • School Districts from various Collaborative Action Team communities participated and shared highlights of their work in early childhood. One area for potential strengthening through LCAPs is to discuss stronger school and community partnerships. For the group notes click here.
  • Children’s Bill of Rights advocates how to involve both youth and systems change leaders in forming a Bill of Rights that examines how to best support children and youth in our county.
  • Affordability of childcare has always been a discussion in Monterey County and both state and federal legislation can affect our residents. The small group will work on developing language for the county legislative platform around early childhood development and identify legislation that can have profound impact our on families.
