With 36% of the population under the age of 18, Gonzales recognizes not only the need for programs that provide support and nurture child development, but also the value of a young perspective.
Gonzales residents are low-income, but they still voted for a half-cent sales tax to help fund youth services. In fact, the town spends more on its youth than its own fire department to provide over 27 different programs and services for children, including affordable summer camps, and year-round sports programs, accrediting all their success to the kids who help govern them via a Youth Council.
