In an effort to address the growing needs of families and young children in California, Governor Newsom has proposed the 2019-20 “California For All” budget aimed at investing more than $2 billion in early childhood programs.
If approved, the budget will provide funding to increase kindergarten to full-day, expand pre-k programs, provide more professional development options for child care providers, home visits for expectant parents, support programs that provide healthcare screening for young children and extend paid family leave. The proposed budget must pass both the State Senate and Assembly with Newsom’s final approval by the end of June. The next five months are crucial for everyone – individuals and organizations – to share their voice with state leaders about local experiences and needs around support for early learning and care.
