CA Continues Funding For Full-Day Preschool, Educators, and Child Care Providers

Bright BeginningsUncategorized

Governor Jerry Brown removed a proposed freeze in multi year funding for early childhood education and child care on May 11, when he released his revision to his 2017-18 budget proposal. This will continue funding over the next year to an additional $239 million which will be used to expand full-day state preschool, opening nearly 3,000 slots. This removal will also allow for educators and caregivers to see an increase in reimbursement rates, fully reflecting last year’s budget agreement and adjust for cost of living. This is a step in the right direction for early childhood education in the state of California, but we will continue to advocate for multi year funding to further ensure providers in all early childhood settings will receive better compensation, training, and professional development to serve our young children as best as they can.
