Monterey County Vaccines By the Numbers

Overall, 79.7% of the eligible population in Monterey County have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

  • Protect your Babies, Toddlers and Young Kids! Join a statewide webinar on COVID-19, the new vaccine for children under 5 and what we can do to support young children’s health. The webinar, sponsored by the Children’s Partnership and Vaccinate all 58,  will be held August 31, from 5:00 – 6:30pm PT. Click here to register.
  • Know someone attending community college and pursuing a career in ECE? Funds are available to help with tuition & textbooks. The funds will go fast, so share this application with those you know!
  • Thinking about starting a Family Child Care business? Join the Family Child Care Home (FCCH) live orientations! To pre-register, contact Community Care Licensing at the San Jose Regional office (408) 324-2148. The upcoming Live Virtual FCCH Orientation dates and times are:
    • Monday, August 22, 2022 – 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
    • Tuesday, August 23, 2022 – 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
    • Thursday, August 25, 2022 – 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

  • Schools are ready for kids, and taking all of the necessary precautions to keep them healthy. Here are a few things that can help your child get ready for the new year:
    • Vaccinate your child against COVID-19
    • Keep your child home if they are ill
    • Wash your hands and your child’s hands
    • Keep your distance in large gatherings or wear a face mask
    • Free COVID-19 Toolkit resources and posters are available here.
  • There is still time! Preschool, Transitional Kinder and Kindergarten programs are still enrolling students for in-person learning. Contact your local school for more information. Here are some tips for a less stressful start to their first school days.
  • Play Based Learning (or guided play) works better than direct instruction for young learners, especially for math and special skills. Read more in this Edutopia article!
  • Applications for  the Infant Family and Early Childhood Mental Health (IFECMH) training are now open! This amazing program is FREE for those who work with children prenatal through age five and their families in Monterey County. Visit the First 5 Monterey County website to learn more and register before Monday, August 22.
  • You may be hearing that Monkey Pox is in Monterey County, however it is very rare in children. Dr. Deneen Guss, Monterey County Superintendent of Schools, has provided some information here that may reassure you.
  • The California Department of Public Health updated their guidance for K-12 programs on July 22. Read the full update here.
    • Persons in a child care setting, regardless of vaccination status, do NOT need to quarantine after an exposure.
    • All exposed persons 2 years of age and older are strongly encouraged to wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days after exposure.
    • Anyone who develops symptoms, even if they previously had COVID-19 or are vaccinated, should isolate and get tested.
  • Join the Hartnell ECE Apprenticeship Program and get a paid job in ECE while taking ECE courses in the evening. We need ECE teachers who love working with young children. Share this flyer.

  • The Parenting Connection of Monterey County will be hosting in-person and virtual Wellness Groups for parents in English and Spanish that are struggling with any of the emotional stressors that can result from becoming a new parent.   • The Monterey County Preschool Service Corps (PSC) program is looking for 9 new AmeriCorps members for the 2022-23 year to support language and literacy development in partnering preschools.
